Cutting or chopping out the excess or otherwise unneeded parts of a motorcycle will leave you with a chopper. This is the ultimate in creating and customizing your own motorcycle. Whether you want to build a custom chopper, custom mini chopper or even a custom trike chopper, a lot is involved. That said, customizing your motorcycle can produce one very unique bike unlike any other on the road.

There are two types of custom choppers to build. You can take a factory model motorcycle and customize it to your liking or go the easier route and build from a kit. Working on a factory model can be more frustrating and less unique, especially if you do not have a lot of knowledge about custom motorcycles. The easier and less stressful way to create custom choppers is with a kit. A kit usually includes all the essential parts, such as the engine, tires, chassis kit, exhaust pipes, controls, taillight, seat, headlamp, steel tanks and other metal parts.

One of the most important aspects of custom choppers is the frame. Choosing a frame is a big decision in the process of bike building. Like the body holds together our organs, the frame contains all the parts of the bike. A solid frame is extremely important if you expect to actually ride the bike. Furthermore, the size and shape of the frame determines how the bike will look and ride, so this is a crucial issue. The frame is also important in the customization of custom choppers. Making an original frame complete with a custom paint job will leave you with a truly unique bike.

There are several different frames meant for custom choppers, depending on the desired suspension and chassis type. The four basic types of frame are Softail, FXR, Rigid and Sportster. Each one will allow for riding on different terrain with varying suspension, so be sure to choose a frame that will perform best for you. Like the frame, custom fenders can also give your chopper a very cool and unique look. It is important to match the correct fender to your tire size and frame type, so be sure to consider both before purchasing.

The mini chopper is a smaller type of custom chopper. It is more like a scooter, but still needs the same attention as regular custom choppers do. The custom trike, another member in the family of custom choppers, is a three-wheeled motorcycle. It involves taking a normal two-wheeled chopper and adding a third wheel to the back. The trike is actually a safer ride than any other custom choppers. Using the three-wheeled system, complete with wide rear tires, there is less of a worry over balance, ensuring that the rider and bike stay upright. This gives the trike a low center of gravity, allowing it to perform well under normal circumstances.

No matter what kind of custom choppers interest you, they involve a lot of time, work and money. Be sure that building one is a task you can handle before diving in. Consider working from a kit first, as they can make the process easier for beginners while teaching them as well.
