Customized Harley Davidson Parts, Paint Jobs, Wheels

Since 1999, Harley Davidson has manufactured custom Harley Davidson Motorcycles. As part of their Custom Vehicle Operations Program (CVO), classic favorites of Harley Davidson's line of motorcycles like the Fat Boy, Electra Glide and V-Rod would come off the assembly line with factory installed upgrades to the engine and exhaust. Despite the CVO Program's popularity, Harley Davidson modders are still tweaking their rides. From paint jobs to wheels, motorcycle shops continue to make parts to accent the long list of Harley Davidson custom parts line, Screamin' Eagle.

One of the many beloved aspects of a Harley Davidson is its ability to be easily modified, tweaked, customized and changed. One of the most popular and noticeable aspects are the addition of custom wheels and custom paint jobs–the first stop for many motorcyclists.

When it comes to custom Harley Davidsons, a new paint job is only limited by the imagination of the rider or the painter. Paint jobs can be as simple as changing the stock paint color or to commissioning an artist to apply an intricate and elaborate air-brushed mural. Much like a tattoo, artwork on a custom Harley Davidson is meant to represent the unique, individual personality of the bike.

Harleys can be painted with millions of different images. Common themes picked by custom Harley Davidson riders are skulls, eagles, flames, Native American imagery and "The Stars and Stripes."  Less common additions from pinstripes to pin-up art can be found adorning bikes. Rest assured, a stock Harley Davidson's multitude of flat surfaces, from fenders to storage compartments and gas tanks, will leave you with plenty of space to paint.

Another easy to customize aspect of the Harley Davidson are the wheels or rims. Shops like American Wire Wheel (with their slogan "Rode hard, definitely not put away wet") are well known as the premier shop for custom spoke wire wheels. Spoke wire wheels, including 100 radial spoke, 100 spoke, 80 spoke, 60 spoke and 40 radial spoke, are specifically inspired by visions of custom Harley Davidson motorcycles. In addition to the classic spoked rim look, shops like Renegade Wheels offer custom rims with more contemporary designs for Harley Davidson riders. Included in the extensive Renegade Wheel custom shop's line are twisted, modern takes influenced by thicker spoked designs.

Harley Davidson custom parts go well beyond just a few coats of paint and chrome rims. Just about any and every aspect of a Harley Davidson can be modified. Many custom shops like Russ Barnett's garage, offer just about everything from custom side covers to air cleaner covers, fenders, dash kits and even tank kits.

Vicious Cycle Works, self proclaimed "creators of exotic chopper handlebars," not only specialize in custom handlebars (their line includes Raptors, Vampires, Gladiators and Sabres), but also proclaim the design of the "World's Finest Internal Throttle."

Shops also specialize in specially machined mechanical performance parts for custom Harley Davidsons. TP Engineering specifically machines five and six speed transmissions for Harleys. Samson Exhaust and Twisted Choppers are best known for building specially tuned custom exhausts for Harley Davidson modders.

Although most riders choose to customize their bikes piece by piece, some shops offer top to bottom customizations of Harleys. Perhaps most famous, Paul Teutal and son's Orange County Choppers and Jesse James West Coast Choppers, offer full-on customized bikes. Less popular in pop culture but well known in the biker community, customizers like Cyril Huze and Arizona's Sedona Choppers, have also developed cult followings for their "from the ground up" overhauls.
